Island Runner Elk Beaver Ultras 2012 Race report Once again another Elk/Beaver Ultras successfully completed. This "classic" early season opener for ultra-runners attracted a talented and cheerful group of athletes. The weather was picture perfect and the beauty of the park and the quality of the trails was acknowledged by all the first time competitors. First place in the women's race was local runner Bonnie Reszel (44) and 4th place O/A was Pat Banziger our youngest competitor in this tough mentally challenging 10 lapper. 6 runners started this event and 4 finished. The "First Timers" Marathon was a closely contested event this year with John Blakeslee winning in a very respectable 3:39:19, giving him the new course set last year. Katie Simpson 3:40:00 from Australia also broke the women's course record. 7 started and finished. record The lone competitor in the 25 mile walk was Susan Boyle, she finished in 6:16:36 on a less than optimal trail course for her faster racewalking technique.
