The Cabannes Loop. Les Cabannes literally means “the huts” or “little cabins,” from the Occitan/French word cabane. It grew up below the hill of Cordes-sur-Ciel, where people could farm, work, travel and trade rather than live inside the fortified medieval town above. So Cordes was the dramatic defensive settlement on the hill, while Les Cabannes became the practical working community below. Over time, Les Cabannes developed its own identity and became more than simply the “bottom of Cordes.” It’s a nice example of how the medieval hilltop town and the everyday countryside around it grew together. https://www.strava.com/routes/3535514754973452654
